Is it possible to bring more than eight people to a private session?Yes but we think that eight people is a great group size to fit comfortably into the sauna at once. We can manually add more people to the booking (£7 p.P. for a 50min session and £10 p.P. for an 80min session). Should you add anyone extra, we recommend going for a longer time slot and taking turns in who is cooling down outside and sauna bathing. If you want to book for more than 8 people, please e-mail us via contact@saunawales.co.uk detailing the date and time of your booking and how many people you wish to add. We can only allow 10 people inside the sauna room at any one time - so if your group is larger you will have to make sure to rotate. The reason for the additional charge is that bigger groups mean more water usage, more going in and out (cooling down the sauna room and needing more firewood to keep the temperature up) and more sand inside needing more cleaning. It's also a lot harder for our staff to manage keeping an eye on everyone and making sure the sauna stays up to temperature.
-
Don’t I have to be naked in a sauna? No, don’t worry. Although being naked is part of some sauna cultures, we ask everybody to wear appropriate swimwear during the sessions.
-
What should I wear? What should I wear? We recommend swimwear without metal fastenings for the sauna session. Please avoid any metal jewelry that could warm up and cause injuries.
-
Can I get a virtual tour to know what to expect?YES! We have recorded a little virtual tour of our sauna at Porth Tyn Tywyn.
-
What does your changing area look like?We have a small changing area available with benches and hooks to store your clothing (please keep personal belongings to a minimum). It is not a private changing room, but rather a walk through area connecting the office with the sauna room.

How can I make most out of my sauna time?We have prepared some example schedules that you can use for inspiration. 50min sauna session: 5min changing 7-10min sauna bathing 5min cooling down 7-10min sauna bathing 5min cooling down 7-10min sauna bathing 5min cooling down and changing 80min sauna session 5min changing 15min sauna bathing 10min cooling down 15min sauna bathing 10min cooling down 15min sauna bathing 10min cooling down and changing Some customers choose to change already outside or in their cars before the start of their session so that they can jump straight back in.
-
Do I stay in the sauna for the whole sauna duration? No! Please don’t. We advise in our customer briefing (it’s hung up in our changing area so give it a read before you go in) to keep the sauna sessions below 20min and include periods of cooling down and rest outside. If you’re not used to saunas, take it easy and go for a shorter session of 3-5min this is a great start. Take a break and then head back in for more and perhaps longer if it feels right. See more details on possible sauna schedules under "How can I make most out of my sauna time?".
-
Do I have to go in the sea when using the sauna?Of course not. This is your time, so make the most of it, no pressure. If you feel like taking a dip in the sea, you can do so at your own risk - please ensure you take note of the tides and sea conditions. We have a shower and pouring jugs available outside the sauna if you fancy being doused in fresh cold water.
-
Are there toilets?Yes, there are toilets at Porth Tyn Tywyn and at the car park of the National Slate Museum in Llanberis. Please ask our staff for the keys if they are closed for the public.
-
Is the sauna clean?Saunas are naturally clean. The sauna operates at high temperatures of 60-100°C, which are too high for germs to survive in reducing risk of exposure. We do have a cleaning protocol in place to ensure that the sauna is clean. We kindly ask all our customers to sit on towels during the session so that no sweat is reaching the wood surface.
