Stillness in the slate
It’s time to slow down, listen, and enjoy the journey. We’re incredibly proud to launch the first-ever sauna soundscape, co-funded by Gwynedd Council.

Guided by Angharad Pelling and Catrin Jones, this bilingual, immersive soundscape integrates a meditative sound bath with the history of the surroundings at Sawna Bach, Llyn Padarn, Llanberis. You’re invited to imagine travelling back to the formation of Llyn Padarn, and into the lives of the quarrymen who worked relentlessly in the slate quarries - before gently returning to your body.

The Soundscape
Creative artist Angharad Pelling and sound producer Endaf Roberts have recorded historic and sensory elements unique to Sawna Bach at Llyn Padarn and it’s surroundings.

A foundation of traditional sound-healing instruments are woven together with spoken Welsh and English words including archival recordings, guiding you through the formation of the lake, the slate beneath your feet, and the human stories shaped by this landscape.
​
The recording also features voice recordings - including the choir Côr y Meibion Caernarfon - reflecting different moments in the area’s history. Extended pauses are carefully included, allowing sauna bathers to move naturally between heat, cool-downs and rest.

Practicalities
The soundscape is played through two speakers inside the sauna and one outside, ensuring the experience follows you wherever your body needs to go.

This recording is designed to introduce you to the surrounding landscape and its history, while soothing the nervous system and supporting deep relaxation.
How to book
Llonyddwch yn y Llechi can be added to any private sauna session as an optional extra. Please note it needs to be booked 2h in advance so we have enough time to set it all up for you. We also have set shared sessions available featuring the sound bath. This is ideal if you are looking for a quiet session.
